Privacy Policy

Last updated

Draft for legal review. Text in [BRACKETS] still needs to be filled in. This page is not legal advice.

This policy explains what [COMPANY NAME] ("Chatslane") does with personal data. Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]. It covers two groups: developers who use Chatslane, and the end users of their apps who chat with them.

Who is responsible

For developers' account data (your name, email, team and billing), Chatslane is the controller.

For end users' data in the chat, the developer whose app you're using is the controller, and Chatslane processes it on their behalf. Please also read that app's privacy policy.

Data we process for developers

  • Account details: email address, name (if provided), password (stored hashed by our authentication provider)
  • Team membership and roles
  • Apps you add: name, icon, App ID and chat settings
  • Billing status from our payment provider (we don't store card numbers)
  • Basic technical logs needed to run and secure the service

Data we process for end users (on behalf of developers)

End users don't need a Chatslane account. Depending on how the developer set up their app, we process:

  • Messages that end users send and receive in the in-app chat
  • Photos and screenshots end users attach to messages
  • An end-user identifier chosen by the developer's app (its own user ID, or a random ID stored on the device)
  • Device platform (iOS, Android or web) and when the user was last active in the chat
  • Name and email address, only if the developer's app passes them in or the user enters their email in the chat to get replies by email
  • Other context the developer's app chooses to send, such as app version, device model, OS version, locale or plan
  • Records of App Store review requests sent from the inbox and whether the app showed the prompt
  • Offer cards sent in chat, whether the user tapped them, and purchase details (product, amount, currency) if the developer's app reports a purchase

Why we process it

  • To deliver messages and photos between end users and the developer's team
  • To show the developer context that helps them support the user
  • To send App Store review requests and offer cards when the developer asks
  • To bill developers and keep the service secure
  • We don't sell personal data and don't use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Who we share it with

Only with the developer's team and the service providers we need to run Chatslane (subprocessors), listed in our Data Processing Agreement. We may disclose data if the law requires it.

Where it's stored and for how long

Data is stored with our infrastructure providers (see the subprocessor list). We keep end-user data for as long as the developer keeps it in their account, and delete it when they delete it or close their account, apart from backups that expire on a rolling basis. TODO(legal): confirm backup retention period.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object to its processing. End users should contact the developer of the app first. From the Chatslane inbox, the developer can download everything stored about a user as a file, or permanently delete it (messages, photos, device details, email address, ratings and votes); each request is logged without personal data. Developers can contact us at info@chatslane.com.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited by role, and each team can only see its own data (enforced in the database with row-level security).

Children

Chatslane is not directed at children. Developers whose apps are for children must make sure their use of the chat meets the rules that apply to them.
